Construction on the corner of the Lloyd expressway and Fulton Avenue is in full swing. An overpass will be built at the intersection, and according to INDOT representatives, its to help with mobility and safety. The intersection has been getting prepped for the coming interchange for awhile now. The final buildings surrounding the intersection are being demolished and cleared out. The once fast moving highway, is now full of orange barrels, and if youve driven it lately, its likely moving a bit slower than usual. INDOT representatives say that the overpass will eliminate the light at the intersection, but it wont be complete for another two years. The reason for the long construction time, they say, is to inconvenience drivers as little as possible. It was once said that this is the first of many interchange projects, but Cher Goodwin of INDOT says, its the only one you can expect before the year 2016, and it comes with a major price tag. Orange barrels on the east side of Evansville are for a separate concrete patching project to expand the longevity of the highway. Goodwin says theyre trying to close as few lanes as possible, but to expect some more closings next week as they demolish the Orr building.
