The City of Evansville wants you to clean up your yard.
That's why they've created a new trash cleanup system.
Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel announced the plans Monday.
This program focuses on heavy trash like couches and mattresses.
The city - with the help of neighborhood associations - will go door-to-door handing out warnings to houses violating the evansville trash and debris code.
This warning also lets violators know a heavy trash pickup day is scheduled and if they get rid of the trash they won't get in trouble. However, if residents don't heed the warning two days after the scheduled trash pickup day, the residents will get a notice and the City will take them to court.
This new program is part of the Front Door Pride Program the City has already started.
The hope with this program is fewer people will get in trouble for violations because the City is giving them plenty of warning that they are coming to pick up the trash.
The heavy trash pick up days will run from the middle of April to the middle of May.
Each part of the city has a different scheduled day.
