The 3,000 acre body of water at the Gibson Generating Station near Princeton usually opens April first.
That wont happen this year because duke energy officials say the levels of selenium in the water are too high.
High levels of selenium are known to disrupt the reproductive cycles and cause deformities in juvenile and adult fish, birds and other egg-laying wildlife.
The lakes outer ponds will remain open because no selenium was found in the water there.
