What are the values that guide your life? Its a question the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library wants you to answer. Its all a part of this years "One book, One community" reading program. Every year, they select a book and, just like a book club, readers get together to discuss it. But this years book, called "This I Believe," is demanding more.. Its provoking readers to declare their own beliefs for all the world to hear! The book is based on the famous national public radio series of the same name. "This I Believe" is a collection of short essays written by famous and not-so-famous people about the philosophies that guide their lives, such as why they always go to funerals and why theyre especially nice to the pizza dude. And once you read it, you might just feel like putting your own philosophy down on paper. EVPLs Evelyn Walker says, "Instead of some of the ranting & raving you hear on talk radio, this is a more thoughtful. Its a chance for people to think about what they value - what gets them through the day." The book is available at all public library branches and in book stores. If you decide you want to write your own essay, aim for 350 to 500 words long. It should simply and maybe even humorously state a simple philosophy that guides your life. Also - the "One book, One community" committee wants you to come out and tell them in one or two sentences what you believe... On camera. The tapings will take place July 21st at the 4-H center and July 25th at Fire and Rain on 1st Avenue at the Lloyd Expressway. Theyll be played back this fall at a special "This I Believe" program at UE. SUBMIT AN ESSAY: http://www.evpl.org/onebook/contribute/default.aspx
