This week is National Work Zone Awareness Week and road officials want to increase safety for both drivers and workers.
According to the Indiana D-O-T, at least seven accidents occur during the span of an average construction project.
They say this is due to a number of factors but mostly to drivers not taking proper safety precautions.
These are drivers who do not slow down, put cell phones away, or pay attention to workers along the road.
Indiana DOT Spokesperson Cher Goodwin says they hope to decrease the number of work zone accidents through continued education and standardization of safety procedures.
