Mom Arrested For Driving With Child In Trunk

A Terre Haute woman is charged with child neglect after driving through Gibson and Knox Counties with her daughter in her trunk. The Gibson County Sheriff says Carol Lee Smith, 36, was arrested Thursday night after deputies found her 14 year old daughter in the trunk of her vehicle. The Sheriff says Lee works for a car dealership and was transporting the truck from Evansville to Terre Haute. Authorities say the truck is a 2-seater, but Lee was traveling with her daughter and elderly mother, so she put her daughter in the back. Neglect of a dependent is a Class D felony, which means Smith could face up to 3 years in prison and/or up to $10,000 in fines.
