A plan in New Harmony Schools to cut the arts program is causing concern among parents and residents. The School Superintedent says there arent enough students filling the classes. So the administrators are proposing two art classes instead of four. That would make art teacher Scott McElwee a part time employee with no benefits. McElwee says this threatens the art program at the school and possibly his willingness to stay on staff. Concerned parents and businesses in New Harmony have started a petition against the move. Some have even posted signs around town in support of the teacher. They are urging the public to "save the arts" by contacting the school board before they meet on Thursday. Thats when the school board will vote on the measure.
