More People Turning To Bicycles As Gas Prices Soar
As gas prices continue to rise, more people are turning to their bicycles to get around this summer.
Many bike shops throughout the area are reporting an increase in bike sales, as well as repairs.
Store owners say a lot of people are getting that old bike out of the garage and asking what it will take to get it going again.
Bike makers are gearing up for a profitable summer, but executive director of the National Bicycle Dealers Association Fred Clements says he expects sales to be about the same as last year.
Clements says even though more people are buying bikes for commuting or running errands, recreational sales are down because of the sagging economy and bad weather.
