breaking news
The woman who signed contract to buy the Executive Inn Rivermont in Owensboro has asked for more time to close the deal. Mary Hukill of Evansville is trying to buy the hotel from Marshall Investments. The contract calls for the deal to close by July 15th. She told me that there is so much to do, she now wants until July 21st to get it done. Nearly a week after securing an option to buy "The Big E", Mary Hukill broke her silence in my interview with her. But there is still a lot she cant say. Hukill says because negotiations are ongoing, she has to be careful about talking. Hukill did say that once she closes on the deal, shes interested in developing only 2 of the 17 acre property. "My concern is the marina area and wed like a hotel that is similar to the Le Merigot. We do want to bring over the showers over there and we want something thats really unique as a small boutique hotel." Hukill told me a couple of potential investors want to keep the existing hotel. Her preference is to demolish it, but shell agree to whatever it takes to get the deal done. As for the criticism that shes been unable to complete several high profiles projects in Evansville, including the former Kenny Kent block downtown, Hukill cited a 30-year record of community service in the tri-state. Hukill wouldnt disclose the sale price, but said once she parcels out the acreage to other developers, shell recoup the initial investment in six months or less. While Hukill wouldnt name anyone, she said at least 5-7 people are interested developing the Executive Inn property.
