News Release: From: Alcoa Alcoa to Add to Its Southwest Indiana Workforce NEWBURGH, Ind. (June 24, 2008) - Alcoa Generating Corporation, the power supplier to Alcoas (NYSE: AA) smelting and fabricating operations in Warrick County, will continue to expand its operations here, creating 10 new jobs by the end of the year. The company, which provides more than 740 megawatts of electricity to Alcoas 9,000-acre southwestern Indiana aluminum production complex, is investing more than $600 million to upgrade its equipment and employee training program to increase the environmental performance and power efficiency of the facility. "We continue to outrun our neighboring states in recruiting new job-creating investment from great global companies like Alcoa," said Nathan Feltman, Secretary of Commerce and chief executive of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation. "Decisions like the one Alcoa is making to continue to invest in Indiana reflects a growing confidence in the business climate of our state." The FORTUNE 500 company, which employs more than 4,000 at four Indiana locations, plans to hire power plant operators, coal handlers and maintenance personnel as part of the expansion. "Alcoa has been doing business in Indiana for more than 50 years," said Royce Haws, primary metals location manager for Warrick Operations. "We have been able to hire good employees who have worked hard to keep our locations competitive in a worldwide market. The assistance from the State of Indiana has been valuable over the years as we have actively invested and grown our business." Alcoa began its operations in southwest Indiana in 1956 that have since grown to a sprawling manufacturing operation for the companys primary metals and rigid packaging divisions capable of producing more than 330,000 tons of aluminum each year. The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered Alcoa up to $84,000 in training grants to help offset the cost of training of the companys new and existing employees in skills ranging from computer operation to lean manufacturing to other industry- and company-specific skills. Founded more than 100 years ago as the Pittsburgh Reduction Company, Alcoa operates facilities in more than 30 countries and employs more than 97,000 workers around the globe. The company manufactures more than 8,000 tons of aluminum products worldwide each day. The announcement of Alcoas growth in Indiana continues the unprecedented growth for the aluminum manufacturer in Indiana. Since 2006, the company has hired more than 500 new associates at its Warrick County campus.
