Successful Cockroach Poison In The Works
(Chicago, IL) -- Residents who suffer from cockroaches scampering around their kitchens may soon be rid of the critters for good.
Researchers are working on a new insecticide that can kill cockroaches and also kill other roaches that feed off the dead bodies.
The poison indoxacarb is the active ingredient in Du Pont Cos Advion Cockroach Gel.
One dose of the poison killed all of the roaches in a study within 72 hours of their first exposure to it.
Roaches are a particularly hard to pest to get rid of because they hide in dark places and come out at night to feed.
They leave behind a chemical trail which then attracts other roaches.
An entomology professor says the new research is significant because cockroaches are such a problem in urban housing and can cause health problems.
The findings of the study can be found in the "Journal of Economic Entomology."
