What the Government Says You Should Get Per Mile

By: Web Producer
Updated: June 24, 2008
IRS Increases Mileage Rate Through End Of Year (Washington, DC) -- Due to the rising prices for gas, the IRS is upping the benchmark rate used by the government and many businesses to reimburse employees for mileage. The new rate of 58-point-five cents per mile will be in effect through the end of the year and is higher by eight cents from the first six months of this year. Its an unusual move, as the IRS normally only adjusts the rate in the fall for the coming calendar year. In a statment, IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman said the agency wants the reimbursement rate to be fair to taxpayers. (Copyright 2008 by Newsroom Solutions) RNS-06-24-08 0248CDT
