Last Day For Comments On Loaded Guns In National Parks
(Portland, OR) -- Today is the last day for public comment on a controversial new regulation that would allow loaded, concealed guns and other weapons in National Parks, replacing the current law that requires guns to be unloaded and properly stowed.
Its a move park rangers and others say doesnt make sense, and there are calls to extend the public comment period in the wake of last weeks Supreme Court ruling on the Second Amendment.
The National Rifle Association says easily accessible loaded weapons are necessary to protect park goers from wild animals and violent crime.
Park rangers and the National Parks Conservation Association maintain that National Parks are among the safest places one can be and that guns are not needed for safety, and would, in fact, make parks more dangerous for both humans and animals.
