A long-time Vanderburgh County politician is calling it quits.
Pigeon township assessor Paul Hatfield has filed his retirement papers.
Hatfield has spent 50 years in public service, including time as a state senator and a city councilman, but the 80-year-old says higher property assessments and increasing work loads are just getting to be too much.
Hatfield will remain in office through October.
