Updated: May 8, 2007
Many of the candidates gathered at The River House in downtown Evansville to watch the results. The biggest race is the mayoral race. Two republican candidates are facing off. With all the precincts reporting david nixon is the winner in this race. The three year resident of the city runs a non-profit organization advising businesses beat Aaron Ridlen. The University of Southern Indiana student only got 40 percent of the vote compared to Nixons 59 percent. Ridlen was watching results with the rest of the Republicans but Nixon had his own party over at Jillians. Nixon was ahead early and never lost his lead. "I feel great whatever results. My grandfather would say to lose is to win to win is everybody win. Thats the key were prepaid whatever the results come out to be." Other races for the Republicans this primary is the 5th Ward City Council Seat. Marty Amsler beat Susan Harp with 51 percent of the vote. Amsler will face Democrat John Friends in November. Finally there is an uncontested At-Large City Council race. Incumbent Joe Keifer got 37 percent of the vote, challenger Dean Brane recieved 29 and Andrew Smith had 32 percent. All three of these men will all be on the November ballot facing the winners of the Democratic At-Large race. Those three candidates are Dan Adams, Curt John and Incumbent and current City Council President Keith Jarboe.
