Get ready for a long wait traveling through parts of Newburgh.
A large sinkhole is blocking parts of Highway 662.
A sewer line collapse is whats causing this mess.
The Town Manager says they noticed the hole about 4:15 on Tuesday. They called out the engineers Wednesday morning to find out what it was. Thats when they saw a ruptured sewere line left a cavernous hole under the road.
That means theres nothing keeping the road stable. They say it should be closed for a few days but are still deciding how to fix the problem.
That declaration of an emergency allows the city to bring in contractors with out consulting to fix the problem as quickly as possible.
Theyre asking for everyones cooperation while they fix the problem.
