breaking news
Its the end of an era in Providence, Kentucky.
Thursday was not only the last day of the school year, it was also the last day of the Providence Independent School System.
Providence schools have been independent since 1917, but starting next fall theyll be merging with Webster County.
Parents and administrators say it was a tough decision, but its the best thing for the students.
Kathy Atkins has two students at Providence and is also a school board member, "I do think merging with Webster County has been a wonderful thing for Providence. It will allow the kids to have more resources and equipment. I think its a really good move."
Ironically, Providence school was on "lock down" Thursday morning, because homeland security was conducting a routine walk through. Officials tells us at no time were students or staff ever in danger.
