There are three candidates on the Republican ticket and seven on the Democratic. According to the latest polls current Governor Ernie Fletcher is ahead for the Republicans and Democrat Steve Beshear is leading the democratic poll. But poll numbers arent stopping other candidates from last minute campaigning. Half of the candidates on tomorrows ticket were in our area today making multiple campaign stops. Showing the importance of voters in our area - even though the state is expecting a very low turnout tomorrow. During his last chance at gaining votes Democratic Challenger Bruce Lunsford is stopping at Wolfs BBQ in Henderson talking up his campaign issues. Lunsford is spending most of his last day asking for votes in Henderson and Owensboro. "Henderson is a county we believe is going ot be one of our best if not the best in the state. So, we want to close out in Henderson and Owebsoro," says Lunsford. Hes one of five candidates spending their time in the Tri-State. Democrat Jody Richards was also in Henderson meeting and greeting the voters. "If we can get out our vote particulary in Western kentucky we will win." Current polls dont show Richards as a winner. But Lunsford is expected to get 21 percent of the vote and Steve Beshear has 27 percent. To him thats as good as a win because a candidate needs 40 percent of the vote. If not the top two candidates have a runoff in June. "I think most came in as an outsider how most people believe will be in a runoff is a sign of how effective our campaign has done," say Lunsford. Which means Lunsford is not only focusing on votes today, but votes next month too. "With 35 days more to go its more beneficial to us." But its not stopping anyone else - including Richards - from expecting a primary win. "Im very excited about it I have a feeling of anticipation," says Richards Voter turnout is expected to be very low across the state. They only expect about 15 percent of registered voters to come out tomorrow. The Henderson board of elections says theyre basing that on a low absentee voter turnout. Be sure to tune into Fox 7 for all your race results tomorrow night.
