It was three years ago almost to the day when two F-16s from the Indiana Air National Guard collided in mid-air during training maneuvers. That crash killed Major William Burchett from the 181st fighter wing out of Terre Haute. The crash in 2004 occurred near Oaktown -- just north of Vincennes -- and it scattered debris across parts of southern Indiana and Illinois. The jet were talking about, the F-15 is an all-weather tactical fighter designed by the Air Force. Known as the Eagle, it first flew in 1972, and entered the service four years later. A more recent variant is the F-15-E, or Strike Eagle. It has seen action around the world, including the war in Iraq. One of the last crashes involving a f-15 was in 2005 at Langley Air Force base in Virginia. Structural failure caused the aircraft to crash during a training mission. The pilot ejected safely, but the 47-million dollar aircraft was destroyed on impact.
