The LST 325 pulled away from port Thursday morning...for the first time in six months. It was part of a special "Shakedown" cruise. It gave the crew a chance to make sure the WWII ship was in good condition. The ship needs to be ready to go, because in August it will depart on a month-long trip up the Illinois River. Thursdays run was also a chance for the crew to unload its Higgins Boat, which is a landing craft that was used in WWII. The Higgins Boat will be part of a D-Day re-enactment going on this weekend. A Battle of Normandy Re-Enactment will take place this weekend at the LST 325 dock. It starts at 1:00 PM on Saturday, and is free to the public.
