Work crews on the Twin Bridges connecting Evansville and Henderson discovered another pothole Monday, a find that has delayed at least part of the repair project on the northbound span of the bridges. Engineers plan to assess the damage to the roadway, which appeared in the right hand southbound lane. That lane uses part of the shoulder, and that could be partly to blame for the appearance of the hole. Excessive vibration on the soft shoulder from speeding vehicles is being investigated, according to Keith Todd of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. "We think maybe the speed, that people are coming off of the bridges faster than they should, and thats contributing to the potholes," Todd said. The posted speed limit is 35 miles an hour, but speeders have been a persistent problem. Engineers will examine the pothole Tuesday. In the meantime, the right hand lane is shut down heading south. The hole is also putting overnight closures of the northbound bridge on hold. The contractor repairing the bridges was set to get access to the entire span starting Monday night. Theres no word on when that will happen, but Transportation Cabinet spokesman Keith Todd says the delay shouldnt cause the entire repair project to take any longer.
