breaking news
Orange barrels and road closed signs are a familiar sight in downtown Evansville.
Will that construction cause traffic tie ups when the Freedom Festival starts next week?
Riverside Drive is set to close next Monday, and construction crews have been hard at work paving Second Street to get it open before then.
Its the main route downtown during Freedom Festival, and has been closed for several months now. They expect it to reopen by this weekend.
Third Street was also closed for much of the week as demolition teams tore down what was left of three buildings destroyed in a fire last week. But their work is through now, and that is road reopened.
The only headache that will remain is work on the twin bridges.
Freedom Festival organizers say there isnt much they can do about all the construction. Theyre urging festival goers to leave early, and pack extra patience.
Kentucky Transportation Cabinet officials are also asking drivers to avoid turning towards Evansville on Waterworks Road to prevent back ups on the northbound bridge.
