Its that time of the year again.
Summer sales of fireworks are on the rise.
Thanks to a new law Indiana residents at least 18 years of age can now purchase fireworks that were once illegal.
But fire officials and shop owners want residents to keep fireworks safety, not just fun, in mind.
District Fire Chief Dan Grimm stressed safety in a press conference Friday.
He says every year near the 4th of July there are more than 20 thousand fires due to fireworks and plenty of injuries.
Windmill Fireworks owner Rodney Schultz tries to remind his customers about safety when setting up shows.
Reminding them to light fireworks on a solid surface and keep at least 100 feet away after lighting them.
Sparklers he says can be one of the more dangerous fireworks because children love them and adults sometimes underestimate there potential to burn.
Shop owners and firefighters agree that fireworks are fun.
But if they are not operated properly in the right way a fire or an injury can happen.
