(Indianapolis) -- Drivers in Indiana will have new seat belt laws to follow starting on Sunday.
Seat belts will be required for all occupants of a motor vehicle starting July 1st.
The change also means that occupants of pickup trucks and other vehicles with truck plates will be required to wear seat belts.
Indiana State Police Sergeant Ray Poole says he hopes people voluntarily comply.
July 1st also marks the end of seat belt enforcement checkpoints in Indiana.
Lawmakers approved the changes earlier this year.
Seat belt law violations are a "primary offense" in Indiana, meaning a law enforcement officer can pull drivers over for not following the law.
There were 899-people killed in car crashes in Indiana last year.
