Drivers along Diamond Avenue from Heidlebach to US 41 are about to get a hefty dose road construction.
The latest phase of upgrades to the state highway are slated to start this week. Work on Diamond from St. Joseph Avenue to Heidlebach over the last two years caused several headaches, especially at First Avenue, where the intersection was totally rebuilt.
Intersections in this phase will be rebuilt too. Its expected to cause problems for merchants along the busy strip. Also, students returning to North High School in the fall may face traffic problems.
Road engineers say they want to remain accessible to both school administrators and businesses to make sure the project goes as smoothly as possible.
Paving on the west bound lane will begin first, with traffic shifted in both directions to the east bound lane.
