Power Failure Strands Gateway Arch Visitors
An apparent electrical failure trapped hundreds of people inside St. Louis' Gateway Arch Saturday night.
According to the "Post-Dispatch," there were no reports of injuries and people remained calm as they streamed out of the north leg of the landmark.
Officials say some visitors were stranded in one of the arch's trams for about two hours.
The paper reports some people at the top of the arch had to walk down 300 feet of steps to a freight elevator that returned them to the bottom.
Electrical fires forced the closure of the 630-foot tall arch in 1998 and 2003.
