Indianas property tax mess is creating bad blood between state and local government officials.
Friday, those in charge of collecting property taxes were in Mt. Vernon at a closed door meeting to explain why Posey County and several others have been ordered to reassess.
Department of Local Government Finance Commissioner Cheryl Musgrave says shes hopeful the meeting was productive.
Local assessors got word from the state that their commercial property values seemed low in their first assessment.
They argue the commercial real estate market is stagnant, so the state cant get any more tax revenue from increased property values.
County leaders in 71 other counties are also frustrated because they received notice that their assessment paperwork is flawed.
Indiana governor Mitch Daniels says he hasnt ruled out calling a special session of the legislature to resolve the property tax confusion.
