Roberts Stadium is the home field for the BlueCats.
This announcement comes right as the city starts their discussion about re-doing Roberts.
Roberts Stadium has everything to do with the owners preparing to dissolve the team if they cant find a new owner - including the cost to rent the venue and the teams participation in the Roberts Stadium advisory board.
Its not the best venue to play or watch an indoor football team, but the Evansville BlueCats did everything they could to make the best of Roberts Stadium.
"We knew the cards we were dealt with Roberts Stadium," says President John Voliva
A newer stadium is on the way, but when no one from the BlueCats was asked to join the more than 20 person group deciding what to do with the stadium Voliva had enough.
"It was a slap across the face quiet frankly. It played a bigger role than it should have."
Also a factor in the decision to sell, low attendance that couldnt make up for the 10 thousand dollar per game rent the BluCats had to pay SMG Entertainment.
SMG stated to us numerous times there were no speical deals for anyone who uses stadium properties.
Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel is out of town and the city deferred comment to SMG. They were not available for comment on camera but say they were never formally asked to change the price.
In a statement Weinzapfel says hes sorry to see the team go and hopes he can support a new owner.
But team Coach John Hart says the mayor doesnt support the team now.
"Numerous times we invited the mayor and again got zero support."
Adding that doesnt fare well for the city attracting other independent and minor league teams.
Voliva says he wants to find someone local to buy the team.
If he can get that offer before October 1st the team will be back before the 2008 season.
