UPDATE-- MONDAY REPORT The official cause for Saturdays fire in Ohio county Kentucky that killed a little boy and his grandfather will go down as "Undetermined." However arson investigators say smoking in bed will be listed as a contributing factor. The fire in Reynolds station killed Jeffery Phelps and his 6-year-old grandson Louis. Investigators say they were able to determine the fire started from a single point in the grandfathers bedroom -- but they say the home was damaged too much to determine anything beyond that. Foul play has been ruled out. SUNDAY REPORT A six year old Ohio County boy and his grandfather are killed in a fire. It happened around nine last night. Whitesville Fire Chief Ronnie Mayfield says it was an emotional Saturday night. His department arrived at this home on Deanfield Church Road just after 9:30 finding it engulfed in flames. Acting on a tip by a neighbor they entered the home looking for and finding the first victim 49 year old Jeffery Phelps. MAYFIELD: "We pulled him out and about that time the ceiling came crashing in so we had to back out and we re-entered through the back and thats when I found the second victim." That second victim was six year old Louis Phelps. He lived here with his great grandmother who arrived home to the devastating scene only after being notified by firefighters . According to Chief Mayfield the fire started here on the bedroom on the west side of the home. Jeffrey Phelps was found lying just inside the front door. Firefighters speculate that he may have been trying to reach the grandson found on the other side of the home. Mayfield says attempts by emergency officials to revive them failed. They were pronounced dead shortly after at at a hospital in Owensboro. Currently there are no clues as to what caused the fire. Just a sad ending and a family tragedy. The Kentucky State Police Arson Team are still investigating the fire. They say they do not suspect foul play.
