Evansville police are cracking down on what some call the worlds oldest profession. Officers are taking part in a prostitution crackdown, thanks to neighbors who are speaking out against the crime. Late Monday night into Tuesday morning, police made the five arrests in only two hours. The women who have been arrested and charged are Brenda Townsend, Katherine Helmerson, Laquanda Pike, Yolanda Cox, and Angela Stewart. Prostitution is generally a misdemeanor...But two of the women arrested face felony charges due to repeat offenses. Police say a common factor in many of the arrests in drugs. Officer Steve Green says, "Most of them not only accept money, they also accept drugs. So they have a lot of people roaming around the neighborhood with drugs. Police say theyll continue to crackdown on prostitution and they encourage people to speak up if they see anything that looks suspicious.
