Owensboro is moving forward with plans for a 400-million dollar entertainment district that will include a 6-thousand seat stadium.
The public-private partnership with developer Gulfstream enterprises would turn this plot of land along the Highway 60 bypass into a shopping, sports and business park.
The city is trying to turn the area into a tif district, using tax dollars from the development to pay off bonds it would use to build it.
The Tif district requires approval from the state legislature.
The city approved the first reading of the move on Tuesday. The mayor and other Owensboro leaders originally backed a downtown stadium plan.
They say the public-private partnership at the sight along the bypass offers a better funding formula for the city.
The Tif district still needs approval from the state.
