Some zoo-goers are upset about a sick horse at Mesker park zoo. They are worried that the horse is suffering and not getting proper treatment. Zoo officials say Lucy is a rare Prizwalski horse with a serious problem.... a problem that stems from a hoof disease called laminitis. The disease prevents Lucy from standing for long periods of time and because of that she has visible sores on her sides. A number of visitors calling us here at fox 7 believe the animal is suffering. But while Lucys condition may be unsightly... zoo officials say treatments are ongoing and her health is showing improvement. They say Lucy had the disease when she was brought to the zoo but director, Dan Mcginn wants to assure the public that they are doing everything to make sure she receives the best care. He says shes on a course of anti-inflammatory medication and they have had special shoes made for her. The zoo has put a sign up near the exhibit explaining Lucys condition. Mcginn says the good news is that her condition is showing improvement and they are optimistic.
