Effective January 1st, 18-year-old drivers can no longer use cell phones behind the wheel in Illinois.
A day after signing a bill which toughened driving laws for teens, Governor Blagojevich signed into law a proposal raising the age at which teens can use cell phones while driving to 19 years old.
The "Chicago Tribune" reports that the new teen driving laws are expected affect an estimated 300,000 young drivers in Illinois.
Chicago and some suburbs already prohibit all drivers from using hand-held cell phones while driving.
