breaking news
A fire rips through a local jewelry store causing major damage to its structure.
Firefighters responded to Drostes Jewlers on Green River Road just after 8:30 Friday night
The upper portion of the store suffered the worst damage.
The blaze burned through the roof from the backside of the building causing workers to remove furniture and shut down the store, open since 1980.
Owner Oscar Droste says firefighters were on the scene after a worker spotted the blaze near the back door .
He credits those firefighters with working quickly helping to save most of the structure.
Droste says landscape lights might have ignited shingles and roof debris, starting the fire, but its still under investigation.
Customers with jewelry at this location can now go to north side store, thats where all the jewels have been relocated.
No jewelry was destroyed by the flames.
The Droste family hopes to re-open the store by December 1st.
