Habitat Potential Flooding

Neighbors raise concerns about flooding from a habitat subdivision now under construction.
Resident Jerry Kennedy says when he and his wife first moved into their home on Fickas road the scene from his porch looked a lot different.
Acres of wetlands was his view but now a 55 home Habitat for Humanity subdivision has replaced it.
Kennedy says hes met several people displaced by the 2005 tornado that are moving into the homes.
He says he has no problem with them but is worried about construction that may cause more flooding in an already flood prone area.
The subdivision is two feet higher than Fickas road while his home is a foot lower that Fickas.
Water naturally flows downhill so Kennedy says thats a concern.
Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel and the citys engineer allegedly told Kennedy that the six detention ponds built to drain rainwater in the subdivision are sufficient.
Fox 7 tried to contact Habitat for Humanity of Evansville but they were not available.
But Kennedy says Habitat is expected to meet with their board of directors on Wednesday to decide whether to sign that document.
