Double Murder-Suicide

Updated: September 4, 2007
Three people are dead in Owensboro after an apparent double murder-suicide. Daviess County Sheriffs deputies believe a man shot his wife and grandson, and then turned the gun on himself. What drove this grandfather to commit the murders?? Law enforcement say they still dont know. But they say 52 year old Jerry Willoughby killed his wife Sharon and 6 year old grandson Christopher Willoughby. Police say he was arrested for bad checks in the 90s, but he had no history of violent crimes. In a press conference Tuesday, the Daviess County Sheriffs department says Willoughby made a call to 911 just after one Tuesday morning. During the call he told dispatchers he was going to kill himself, before a single gunshot was heard. Police arrived at 2351 Keenland Parkway and found Willoughby dead and a nine millimeter semi-automatic handgun near his body. They also found his grandson, Christopher Willoughby, dead of single gunshot. Willoughbys wife, Sharon, also suffered from a gunshot to the head, but died later at the hospital. Sheriff Keith Cain says police are still investigating the case. Grief counselors were made available at Meadow Lands Elementary School where the 6 year old attended.
