The future of fire protection services in parts of Warrick County may be in jeopardy.
The ohio township volunteer fire department chief says the epworth fire station may be shut down at the end of the year.
The fire department currently operates out of two stations...The one located along epworth road in Newburgh, as well as the Paradise station
The ohio township board decides who will provide fire protection services...And right now the volunteer fire department is contracted through the end of the year...But just last night the board voted *not* to renew the existing contract.
The fire chief says this all stems from an ultimatum he was given by the township trustee to split the epworth road station away from the paradise station.
As of right now, the township board has made no decision regarding who will take over fire protection services in 2008...
The township trustee sent a fax saying the vote *not* to renew was unanimous.
The board will be having a public hearing Sept. 18th.
The fire chief and members of the fire department are asking the public to come out and show their support.
The meeting will be at 5:30 at the Epworth Station.
