Representative Dave Crooks made the surprise announcement
not seek another term Saturday.
Crooks is a Democrat, who represents parts of Daviees, Dubois, Pike and Martin counties.
He says he will serve the remainder of his current term.
But state Republican Senator Vaneta Becker shared her own opinion on whether this will effect the democrats
51 to 49 majority in the house.
She says she thinks it gives republicans in the house an edge because its far harder to beat an incumbent than it is an open seat.
As for Representative Crooks, he says his decision was based on wanting to concentrate on his business and spend more time with his family.
