Updated: September 30, 2007
Before heading back to Iraq the 163rd shared food and fun with their family. A picnic for army national guard soldiers and their families was held at the National Guard Armory. They were given lunch while their kids play on inflatables -some getting their faces painted by Shriners. The family readiness group was responsible for organizing the event. Meanwhile hundreds of Kentucky National Guard members are back on American soil. Around six-hundred soldiers returned to Lexington this morning. They spent about year serving in Iraq. Family and friends welcomed them home with a celebration at Rupp Arena. The 149th infantry mountain warriors provided security and conducted combat patrols. Other men and women belong to the transportation company and ran daily supply missions for the army. The troops were deployed in October of last year. All of the soldiers are based in eastern Kentucky
