Myanmar Couple Mission

By: LaTonya Stephens
Updated: September 30, 2007
A couple working to better the lives of orphans could face rioting and civil unrest. Brian and Amy Kerney travel to the Southeast Asian country of Myanmar as part of the Bethel Temple Community mission to support orphanages for hundreds of children. But just last week Myanmar security forces opened fire on pro-democracy protesters allegedly killing at least nine people. In the midst of all this, are the Kerneys who are planning a return to the country in February despite the escalating problems. Amy Kerney says for the most part they feel safe when they are in the country. She says they feel like God has called them to do a work over there and hes going to keep them safe. The Kerneys say right now they are looking for one to one sponsorships for the children. Individuals willing to give a 30 dollar tax deductible monthly donation to support at least one child.
