October 9 marks the 2 year anniversary of the death of Jean Cook. The mom and grandmother was gunned down while working at the Busler's on US 41 in Vanderburgh County. Her attacker remains at large on this anniversary, but her daughter is committed not only to finding justice for Jean, but also to creating a living memorial to her. Bobbi Jo Cook, with the help of Fox 7 Reporter Andy Schroeder, Burdette Park Manager Steve Craig, and the Vanderburgh County Commissioners, has created Jeans Grove, a tree memorial that will be created along the new USI to Burdette Park hiking and biking trail. Several trees were removed during the construction of the trail, now Burdette has opened the trail to the community, inviting the public to purchase trees to be planted by park staff to repopulate it. A list of preferred trees will be available on the Burdette Park web site starting November 1, when the tree memorial is formally dedicated. The public is invited to that ceremony. Memorial plaques are will also be available for purchase, but are not required. The long term goal is to have the entire tree memorial mapped on-line, so visitors will be able to locate the tree dedicated to a loved one before visiting, then find it along the trail.
