Vanderburgh County Commissioners set the official opening date for the Jeans Grove Tree Memorial at Burdette Park for November 1, 2007 at 10 am.
The memorial was established as a way to honor and memorialize loved ones while adding to the beauty of one of the countys most serene parks. Anyone who wishes to contribute to the memorial is invited to work with Burdette Park to purchase a tree which will be planted along the new .6 mile USI to Burdette hiking and biking trail.
The memorial tree planting program is named in honor of slain grandmother Jean Cook, who was shot while working at a Vanderburgh County Buslers in October 2005.
Those interested in participating in the project can purchase a tree and make arrangements with Burdette Park manager Steve Craig to have it planted. For a minimum donation of $50, the park staff will help procure a tree from their landscape resources. Please contact Andy Schroeder at Fox 7 for more information at andys@wtvw.com or Steve Craig with Burdette Park at (812) 435-5602.
