National Weather Service Presser

By: LaTonya Stephens
Updated: October 22, 2007
The National Weather Service held a press conference today detailing the extent of the storm damage throughout Western Kentucky. They focused on the areas hardest hit, the damages left behind, and reported injuries. They say at least 3 tracks or tornadoes were in Daviess county and at least one track or tornado in Webster county. National Weather Service Meterologist Rick Shanklin stressed that the number of tornados is still preliminary information and at some point may change. But what will not change he says is the impact of the storms most of which were EF2 tornados with wind speeds from 111 to 135 miles per hour. The force of the tornados is what caused at least three reported injuries near Sebree and 11 in Daviess county. Emergency Management Director Richard Payne says it also caused a lot of power outtages. On Saturday the National Weather Service will flyover the affected areas leaving from the Owensboro airport in the morning and afternoon.
