US & World Summary: Tonight Show Writer Says They Want Fair Share Jay Leno and Tina Fey are among the Hollywood stars supporting striking writers. The host of NBCs "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," showed up on the picket lines yesterday to deliver doughnuts to the writers as his way of supporting the Writers Guild of America. Lenos head writer, Jim Shaughnessy, says they just want fair residual payments for shows, like Lenos, that are also run over the Internet. Fey was also on the picket lines yesterday. The former "Saturday Night Live" writer currently writes and stars in NBCs "30 Rock." --- Democrat Dennis Kucinich Wants Vote On Impeaching Cheney (Washington, DC) -- The best way to avoid a war with Iran is to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney. Thats the view of Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich, who may try to force a vote on the matter today. The Democratic presidential candidate says Cheney is, quote, "cherry picking" intelligence and manipulating facts about the war in Iraq. A spokeswoman for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says Pelosi isnt interested in raising the issue at this time. --- Army To Recommend Death Penalty In Fragging Case (Fort Bragg, NC) -- Former New York National Guardsman Alberto Martinez could be facing the death penalty. Thats the recommendation from the investigating officer in an Army fragging case. Martinez is accused of killing Captain Phillip Esposito and First Lieutenant Louis Allen in an explosion two years ago near Tikrit, Iraq. Martinez is set to make his next appearance in military court Thursday at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. --- Los Angeles Brawl Ends With Womans Death (Los Angeles, CA) -- A brawl yesterday in Los Angeles turned deadly, killing a pregnant woman. According to the "Los Angeles Times" the woman died when one of the brawlers jumped into a car and drove into the crowd striking her and two others. The fight took place near a busy intersection in front of hundreds of onlookers. Police say its not clear what caused the confrontation, although they believe the incident was over a man. The driver, who hasnt been identified, turned herself to police late last night. --- Governors And Mayors To Be Chosen By Voters Today Its election day across much of the nation today. Voters in Mississippi and Kentucky are electing governors, while Philadelphia and San Francisco residents are choosing their next mayor. Mississippis Republican Governor Haley Barbour is up for re-election and holds a substantial lead over his Democratic challenger, John Eaves. In Kentucky, incumbent Republican Ernie Fletcher is being challenged by Democrat Steve Beshear. In San Francisco, Mayor Gavin Newsom is seeking re-election and is being challenged by eleven candidates, while Philadelphia has an open mayors race because incumbent John Street cant run again. --- US Airways Tops In Consumer Complaints For September (Phoenix, AZ) -- US Airways still tops the list for consumer complaints. Thats according to the latest report from the Department of Transportation. US Airways had the highest percentage of consumer complaints of any major U.S. airline during September and overall for the entire first nine-months of this year. The air carrier had two-point-13 complaints for every 100-thousand passengers. Delta Air Lines was next with two-point-eleven complaints, while Aloha Airlines scored the best with consumers. They had no complaints during September. --- Bryan Starts Romance With Former "Dancing" Partner Sabrina Bryan may have lost out at winning "Dancing With the Stars" this year, but she did get a nice consolation prize. The member of the Cheetah Girls told "TV Guide" magazine she and her professional partner Mark Ballas are dating. Bryan says the relationship didnt get romantic until they were voted off the ABC show last week. Sabrina and Marks ejection from "Dancing With the Stars" caused an uproar on last Tuesday nights show, including the disapproval from the judges.
