Helping Homeless Vets

More than 1200 veterans in Indiana were homeless last year.
Thats according to a report released Thursday by the National Alliance to End Homelessness.
The City-County Commission on Homelessness held a press conference Thursday about its plans to combat the problem in Vanderburgh County.
The Commissions ten year plan, has already been in effect for three years, but more projects are in the works.
The plan, called Destination Home, includes increasing rental subsidies, creating more services, providing transportation, and a new 60-unit long-term housing complex.
Of the 400 homeless people in Vanderburgh County, the Commission says about 10% of them are military veterans.
Although the issue is timely with Veterans Day Sunday, these officials and organizations say its something that needs to be a priority year-round.
One other note, the rescue mission here is giving baskets of food to make Thanksgiving dinner to anyone needing it, but you need to sign up by Friday, November 9.
