The Vanderburgh County Coroners office has identified the man killed in the Hickory Lake apartment fire as 87 year-old Richard Lambert. Evansville Fire officials arrived at 12-18 Begonia Court Saturday to battle the blaze just after 4 in the evening. They say Lamberts wife Carolyn suggested that her husband was smoking while breathing from an oxygen tank. Fire officials believed that sparked the fire that left at least seven residents homeless and Lambert dead. Neighbor, Joseph Stagg says Lambert was a very good man....a guy thats gonna be missed by everybody. Carolyn Lambert was treated for burns and released from St. Marys. Evansville Fire Department says there is still an ongoing investigation.
