breaking news
As part of Indianas largest troop mobilization since World War II, Evansvilles 163rd Field Artillery Unit will soon head to Iraq. Right now theyre in intensive pre-mobilization training, gearing up for the deployment. Fort Campbell Kentucky is one of the places where theyre using new equipment that will help them in battle. One of the new items is a special scope that helps track targets more quickly.
Learning to fight individually is important but working as a team is what makes the Army, well, the Army. To train as a team, the 163rd moved from Fort Campbell to the Wendell Ford Training Center in western Kentucky. Convoy security will be a reality for the soldiers of the 163rd. Its a dangerous job and staff Sgt. Groeninger is in charge of making the situation here at home resemble as much as possible what our soldiers will find once boots hit the ground. A mock Iraqi town is set up at the training center to make it as real as possible.
Evansvilles 163rd Field Artillery Unit will head overseas sometime early next year. Fox 7 will air two more pieces on the 163rds training the following two Mondays.
