A survey released this month ranks Owensboro in the top ten cities in the country to open a new restaurant. Restaurant business magazine released their rankings in their November issue. Number one on the list was Myrtle Beach - two was Destin ,Florida. Evansville ranked 155th out of 363 cities. Right above Owensboro was Las Vegas. The numbers were determined by the US census bureaus retail trade figures. How do people in Owensboro feel about this ranking? This month restaurant business magazine put Owensboro 7th in the list of top cities to open a new restaurant. I went to one of the most popular barbecue restaurants in the city - Moonlite - to find out what they think about this rating. Its hard work keeping one of the most popular barbecue restaurants in Owensboro running. But for nearly a half century the Bosley family has done well for themselves. "We started out with 12 seats and we seat 325 people now." They know the ins and outs of owning a restaurant in the city. "Its one of the most risky businesses to open." Despite the risk - a new survey ranks Owensboro in the top ten for opening a new restaurant. Co-owner Ken Bosley says its not the first time hes seen a ranking like this. "Most of these numbers are put with polling Id have to doubt the numbers." At least financially - Bosley agrees people in Owensboro and Daviess county love to eat out. "50 percent of our business comes from Daviess County." Chamber of Commerce president Jody Wassmer thinks its great to see Owensboro on so high on the list. "Hopefully it will attract new businesses." While new business is great for the city - Bosley warns you have to keep the businesses open. Because no matter what a poll says in the end its only about how hard you work to keep the place running. To see all the rankings they are in this months issue of restaurant business magazine.
