breaking news
The holidays are upon us, and some families may not be able to enjoy a nice holiday meal.
Families who rely on food pantries for meals are finding empty shelves.
At two food pantries visited Wednesday. St. Vincents and the Christian Life Center, the shelves at both were pretty bare.
This is the time of year when families gather round the table - to share a holiday meal. But this year, more and more people have to rely on local food pantries for help.
Gina Gibson of the Christian Life Center says, "Prices for everything are going up, gas prices are rising, utilities are rising, and they cant budget for that. so what are their choices, pay rent, utilities or groceries for their children."
Last year the Center fed 93,000 people, and numbers are on the rise. Gibson says they had to change their rules. Now families can only come every 60 days, instead of every 30.
St. Vincents food pantry is having the same problem.
These arent the only two food pantries struggling. There are 132 food pantries in Evansville, all of which could use a little extra help. If you have food, money or time to donate, help is welcomed.
