Bridge Opening Delayed

The bridge over the Wabash river near New Harmony will not be open by Thanksgiving as engineers originally hoped. Transportation officials have decided to construct a new pier for the east steel girder span of the Illinois approach. That work will begin Friday. The White county bridge commission says its most optimistic plans now are to have the bridge open by mid December. The bridge closed earlier this year over concerns of a growing crack on the structure.
